Daniel Craig Is Back as the World’s Greatest Detective, Benoit Blanc. As the main VFX partner on Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, DNEG delivered over 500 visual effects shots across 15 key sequences, supporting the film’s bold reinvention of the classic murder mystery.
The VFX team created the film ’s striking primary setting, including large CG buildings, architectural structures, and expansive environments. Drawing inspiration from real-world glass landmarks, the team designed and built the iconic Glass Onion—a fully glass, 50-foot-tall dome structure—along with the surrounding villa and Greek island. Because the villa and island were filmed in different locations, both were recreated entirely in CG, including a 360-degree island backdrop and detailed environmental elements such as vegetation, lighting, pathways, and architectural features.
Beyond world-building, the team also delivered the film’s large-scale finale explosion. With no direct visual reference, multiple FX simulation iterations were developed to achieve the right balance of fire, gas, lighting interaction, and structural destruction, culminating in a visually striking and dramatic conclusion.
